Where does our timber originate from?

Winkleigh Timber actively seeks building and structures that are due to be demolished from all over the U.K. We can then salvage the usable timber and transport it back to our yard to be processed. For example, some of our local timber has been reclaimed from Bideford Quay 2005 (made into Quay tables), the old RGB site in Bideford and Shaplands in Barnstaple. Due to the nature of our business, we are always in the market to obtain any timbers that are of reasonable quality and quantity. For more details please contact our timber yard office.

The Process

photograph of timber being unloaded From the old timber entering the yard, there is a great deal of work to be done. Obviously storage is a big factor to consider with so many different types of wood coming in, storage organisation is key. The wood has to be carefully prepared for use by our dedicated team who must detect visible metals and remove such objects. This can be extremely labour intensive as some of the wood has been held together for many years. The wood is then metal detected using specialised machinery and then sorted into sizes and grades ready for use.

Why use Reclaimed?

Particularly now, as a society, we are encouraged to be more ecologically friendly. Winkleigh Timber has in fact been ecologically friendly since the day we started the business. Why? Wood is one of the most reusable materials available to mankind and can be manufactured into a multitude of products. The key features of using reclaimed timber, be it for furniture or building purposes, is its durability, history, beauty and stability. Why not have some beautiful furniture in you home or use durable timber for your renovation work and be ecological.

Some of our reclaimed timbers were recently used to create the greenhouse and decking in 'Toby Buckland's Ethical Garden', who won a Gold Award at this years Gardeners World Live event at the NEC arena in Birmingham. We would like to congratulate Toby on his continued success and will be happy to assist in his future plans.

Uses of our timber

Largely our timber is made on site, into furniture - and sold through our showroom - Winkleigh Pine Furniture. We also have a high demand for timber for uses such as - flooring, doors, joinery, etc..
