When planning your kitchen worktop, we have a choice of either beech, pine, oak, slate or granite tops.
Granite worktops are becoming increasingly popular due to their hard wearing surface and simply because they look stunning. Granite is a very hard igneous rock formed from the slow crystallization of molten magma. Granite is widely distributed throughout the continental crust of the earth and is the most abundant basement rock that underlies the relatively thin sedimentary veneer of the continents. It is fairly common throughout the world however, the most commercial quarries are located in the Scandinavian Peninsula, Spain, Brazil, India and South Africa.
Kitchen worktops are the hardest worked surface in the home therefore, granite is probably one of the most durable and dependable surfaces to stand the test of any home. It is heatproof, waterproof, stain resistant, virtually impossible to scratch and very low maintenance.
Granite worktops are extremely easy to maintain. All that is required is a kitchen sponge and a little warm water, wiped dry with a paper towel. We supply a free granite care package to all customers placing a granite order over £ .
Granite is very distinctive and is available in some unique colours and patterns. We have a choice of different colours to choose from, each of which is on display in our workshop. Granite sheets come in different sizes (as do kitchens!) therefore, we provide a full cutting and machining service of both granite and slate which is carried out in our workshops at Winkleigh Timber. We also offer a full templating and installation service.
